For Kallie's 10th birthday party we decided to a Harry Potter theme. Kallie and I had fun planning it. I am so grateful for my best friend Heidi she had a Harry Potter party for her daughter's 10th birthday too, and she loan me things and made me this awesome CD of different things she used. There is a ton of pictures on this post but many that I didn't post, but I will try to post them on my facebook page so check them out there. Also you know how you get so many ideas of what you want to do at a party but you just run out of time. Well it happen that way for me too. There were many more things I wanted but didn't happen, oh well maybe next time if I do this party again.
For the invitation we type out the letter that was mailed to Harry Potter in the first book, in green ink on parchment colored paper I wanted to seal it with candle wax but it bled through the paper so I just used a red sticker with a black H on it. The invite read...

As the girls came to party some were dressed in costumes some weren't. My kids were so excited for the party that they all wanted to be characters. Kallie was Ginny (Ron's sister), Jaron was Harry, Kelsie was Hermoine, and Karlee was Dobby the house elf. I was so grateful that it was such a beautiful day outside, we were able to do most of the party outside. Once all the guest were here we went outside and did the sorting hat. Heidi's mom made this awesome hat that I was able to borrow. The hat was placed on their heads and then Dobby would let them pick out of the pumpkin bucket which house they belong to. The bucket contain crest of each house with pins on them, that they wore for their house.
Here Kelsie is picking the house that she in. She was the first one to go so Dobby (Karlee) is still getting the hang of her job.
The birthday girl picking her house.
Half way through Dobby finally understood her job and loved doing it.
After they all got sorted in to houses we moved onto the classes. Our first class was Spells/Wands. Few weeks before the party the kids and I collected sticks out in the yard, mod podge them so they didn't just look like sticks. After they dried we painted glow in the dark paint on the tip of them so they could pretend to do the Luminous spell. At the party we had the girls decorate their wands to make them their own, (I wanted to have more things for them to use then I did) the things I had for them to use were pipe cleaners, glitter glue, and markers. The above picture show some of the wands decorated and what they looked like before they were.
Next class was Potions Class, Kyle was the teacher for that class. They gathered around the table as they put potions together, (more like science experiment).
The first potion they did was Oobleck which was to trick your foe, when pushed together the mixture will appear dry and solid, when you let go, it flows like smooth liquid. Everyone enjoyed making and Kyle was amazed by it to. If you want to make Oobleck you mix all the ingredients together of 1/2 cup corn starch, 1/3 cup water, 1 drop food coloring. I ten times my ingredients so that I would have a lot.
Everyone got to put there hands in to check it out. Can you spot Dobby she would randomly show up around the party, just blended right in.
Here she is trying to get a quick view, between legs.
At potions we had one that dared to try bats blood with troll toenail clippings (V-8 with coconut flakes). What a brave one.
Our next potion was Beetle Juice (diet Coke) and blind cat eyes (mementos) mixed together. It made a huge spray and I didn't get a picture of how high it went because I was running backwards from the spray. It went up about 10 feet. It was cool to see.
This is the potion after it had come down, look at the smile on Jaron's face. He loved it. After all the girls had gone in he was still trying to make potions with all the stuff that was out there. A budding little scientist.
We then headed inside for Dvination Class, where the kids had to guess what flavors of Jelly Belly they were as they ate them. I told them they were Bertie's Botts Bean of yummy flavors.
Next we moved to the Snitch game (pinata). It started out as a pinata, we had three girls go and it got knocked off the string and so we turned it into snitch baseball.
Kyle is pitching it to Addy as she swings with the broom they fly on in the game Snitch. A couple more girls were able to swing before the candy sprung out and they all dove in.
For the cake I took ice cream cones and covered them in chocolate, turned them upside down on cupcakes. Making wizards hats with Harry Potter's scar. We tried to light the candles (yes, she was able to have candles on the cake- Kyle was able to light them :0) outside but the wind was blowing them out quicker then we could get them lit. So we moved inside.
Kallie tried and tried to blow them out. But she couldn't get them blown out on her own, I used trick candles that never blow out.
So the whole party came in to help her blow them out.
Time to eat cake and ice cream that they seem to enjoy. I had one last magic trick up my sleeve. A magic drink that was one color as you pour it and then when it hits the cup it turns another color. At first they didn't notice that it was happening, but then they were shocked when they realized it was not the same color as what was in the bottle.
A couple days earlier I had dried some food coloring in the cups and so when I poured the sprite in it would change the color. After they were all done eating cake, they open gifts and then played Scene It Harry Potter until their parents came and got them.
For their goody bags I made these little brooms that had...
Drooble Best Bubble Gum, Fizzy Whizbees (Pop Rocks), Bertie's Botts Beans (Jelly Bellys, Kyle help me sew the bags for this one :0), and a Chocolate Frog. It turned out to be a really fun party. A lot of the girls have said that they had a blast at the party. And even one girl wrote a thank you note to Kallie and I for inviting her to the "wonderful party". I thought it was so sweet of her to do that.
