Second Week in Alaska: Adjusting - New School

January 2 - 8

Kyle got a call from his co-worker, telling Kyle that he (the co-worker) had to do Jury duty and so Kyle had to work the next two weeks. It threw Kyle and I for a loop because we had the next couple days, that he was going to have off, planned out. But that is okay, we go with the flow and made new plans. The kids and I spent one more day in the house being lazy. They started school the next day. None of them really seemed that nervous about it, maybe they are becoming old pros at changing schools and making new friends. But to be on the safe side I asked Kyle to give them each father blessings for the new school and adventure.

On Tuesday since Kyle had to be at work at 6 am, and I didn't want to drive on the ice and snow with no traction on the tires. The kids and I went with Kyle to work. Luckily they have a little kid area with a video game, t.v that had Disney channel with cartoons, and a fish tank. The kids and I hung out there for two hours. At which time we bundled up and walk over to the kids school. I thought I was going into the wrong school but it turned out to be the right one, which was good because I was about to lose it - I was so nervous for the kids. We were taken to each of the kids room and met the teachers and they all seemed to be really nice.
Karlee had dripped some hot chocolate on her shirt and  didn't want to wear it while it was wet. So she put her socks on her to keep her warm, this while we are sitting in the cafeteria. Just a little bored.
Karlee and I walked back to the hospital to hang out until the kids got out of school and Kyle off work. When I dropped the kids off at school I received a pile of paper work to fill out, times it by three. So I spent the morning in the cafeteria filling out paper work while Karlee colored. We must have been there too long because one of the workers came up and asked us if we were stranded there. :0) Julie had told me that there was a play group at the church today too, so knowing that Karlee was bored out her mind we went over. Which was good because I met a lot of nice ladies my age. I also met up with a another sister missionary from my mission when I served. It was so good to see her and get to talk with her, she is so much fun. Kyle and I picked the kids up from school and they all said they had a great day and made some friends. I was so happy.

Karlee and I stayed home on Wednesday while Kyle dropped and picked the kids at school. When they got home the kids were so excited to tell me that they had indoor recess because it was -12. The school has a rule: Indoor recess once it hits below -10. Man that sounds so cold. Kallie was also excited that she had made it to one of two in the top of her class for a geographic bee they were doing in class. And next week would go up against the others who won in her school.

On Thursday Kyle got a day off and we were able to get snow tires on the car. I was so excited, well at first I was a little nervous but then once I got the feel for it I loved that I could drive again without fear. Kyle said it was like night and day driving with snow tires and not. (I am glad that I didn't try w/o :0).
While out and with just one kid, Kyle and I went to lunch at Arby's for our Anniversary. Friday I took Kyle to work and then I was able to take the kids to school and reverse pick everyone up. It was nice to be able to drive around town and to be able to see things. On Saturday Kyle had the day off but we were not able to go anywhere because it snowed about a foot, and the car had a hard time plowing through the snow. On Sunday it continue to snow but we made it to church and enjoyed our 13th Anniversary with our family.

Fun Fact about Alaska or at least where we live: the snow is so dry here that you can't build a snowman or even a snow ball. I think we will still try to make one but I think it will be laying on the ground so we can just pile it together. :0)
